Why do I need a “yellow card” to tryout or practice?  To avoid lost paperwork and confusion, your child will need a yellow card (also known as a “ticket to practice”) before they are allowed to participate. This system is managed by our Athletic Training staff and ensures all proper paperwork has been completed before your child joins a team. It also allows our coaches to coach and not be bogged down in paperwork. When are pictures schedule? To ensure our photo deadlines are met for our media guides and banners, our picture dates are set early in the seasons before tryouts begin. Due to the early booking dates, makeup picture dates are NOT offered at the school and will need to be scheduled individually through our photographer at this studio. Hickory Ridge Athletics is proud to offer Blair Phillips Photography as our individual and team photo provider. Photo ordering information will be posted to hrhsbulls.com as soon as it is available.

How do I order a Senior banner for my student-athlete? Senior Banners are sold through the HRHS Athletic Boosters Club. For information, please contact jane.cruce@cabarrus.k12.nc.us or download the order form by clicking HERE

What if we’ve already planned a vacation during our season? If you know you have a vacation coming up during your sports season, that information needs to be shared with your coach well in advance to avoid any miscommunication and misunderstandings.

What if a parent DID NOT attend a mandatory parent’s concussion meeting at HRHS prior to the season beginning? If you do not attend ONE preseason concussion presentation per school year, your child will be ineligible. These meetings are offered at various times throughout the year and are posted in advance of each season’s scheduled start date. If you find yourself in a situation where you do not meet this requirement, please email philip.furr@cabarrus.k12.nc.us to make individual arrangements.

Why do I have to attend an individual team meeting if I attended the concussion meeting? The NCHSAA requires each coach to hold a preseason meeting with all parents. Your attendance is required. At this meeting, team specific information will be addressed. These will be scheduled by the coach and each team’s meeting time and date will vary. The mandatory concussion meeting is separate and required by the North Carolina General Assembly as part of their Gfeller-Waller legislation.

What if my child did not pass enough classes or missed too many days to participate?  Eligibility for NCHSAA competition is based on the student’s previous semester of coursework. Academically, a student must pass 3-of-4 classes to be eligible. For attendance, a student in Cabarrus County must not have missed more than 13 days of school the previous semester. Eligibility in those two areas will be determined once tryouts begin. A student who tries out for a team may later find out they are ineligible once grades and attendance are certified. To avoid this situation, if you feel your child may be in danger of either threshold, please contact philip.furr@cabarrus.k12.nc.us immediately. Rising 9th graders are automatically eligible for their first Fall semester at HRHS.

What are “team shops?”  In an effort to provide our parents, players and fans an opportunity to purchase higher-end, brand name Bulls merchandise (Adidas) at below-retail costs, we partner with BrandRPM to offer online options to make those purchases. Your coach will have this information available if your team is offering a team shop this season. Team Shops allow us to offer items which would otherwise not be cost-effective for our Athletic Boosters Club to keep on stock in our Spirit Barn. Your purchases through team shops allow our athletic program to buy our uniforms at discounted prices, keeping our Ragin’ Bulls looking good on the fields, courts,mats, pools, tracks and courses.
